The Day Off

Yesterday I had the day off. The day off from cooking that is. The two men in my life, my teenage son and husband decided to cook. Now although I enjoy cooking for my family, it certainly is nice to have someone else cook for you for a change, wouldn't you say?

The day started like this....

Pancakes.... my fifteen year old made from scratch! Now although he watches us make them from time to time, he never actually attempted to on his own. Can I say, he did an outstanding job. They were delicious! Not one pancake left! These pancakes are yogurt based and they are extra fluffy!

then....

Homemade ravioli stuffed with a shrimp and scallop filling with a brown butter and sage sauce. Yep, my husband made the pasta from scratch as well as the filling! They were delicious!!!

also.....

A braised and stuffed veal roast with a vegetable compote topped off with a gremolata of parsley, garlic and lemon zest.

I'm not done.....

Homemade Tiramisu!!!!

Yum!

(I think my husband is trying to upstage me)

I'm proud of my two guys. So when's the next time??

xoxoxo

The Finished Product

In my last post, I talked a bit about my process and what I was working on. Well, here it is, the finished product. I chose to create an asymmetrical design with the Amethyst gemstone to one side surrounded by a studded flourish of silver beads and gave the ring an overall charcoal patina.

I have more goodies tumbling around in my tumbler at the moment. Those will be for another post :)

Work and Play

It's been a little slow in the production this week. I got stricken with the dreaded MIGRAINE and it has lasted more days than I would like. It's that time of year when the weather is changing and it is not quite sure whether it wants to be warm or cold. The instability of this weather pattern wreaks havoc on my brain.  I did manage to create some though.  I was fiddling around with some ideas on a ring featuring a pretty round Amethyst gemstone last night and took some production shots.

There isn't one particular way in which I work. Sometimes it starts with an idea and I sketch it out along with some other variations, and sometimes I create as I go, just letting ideas come to me by playing around with pieces.

I created the ring band (needs cleaning and polishing) and I melted pure silver pieces into tiny shiny balls. Soldering tiny pieces such as these balls is tricky because I sweat solder the pieces first meaning I add solder to the piece and then position them where I want and solder the whole thing together. The tricky part is since these pieces are so small, there is a fine line between soldering the pieces together and ending up with a puddle of silver. You have to be very careful not to apply too much heat and melt the whole darn piece that you spent so much time creating!

This is the bezel that I created around the Amethyst stone and the sterling silver sheet that I use by sawing out shapes and then filing and polishing.

for the play.....

Going for walks, taking in the last remnants of fall and its glorious colors. I know in some parts of Canada and the U.S. they have already seen snow!  We are still holding on here but it is getting COLD!

One For Me And Three For You

People often ask me why I don't wear pieces that I make. They say that it would be like free advertising. Well I usually don't make myself anything because when I do set out to create a piece just for me, I quickly change my mind and put it in my shop instead. This time, I made one just for me. I scooped up one of the Tourmaline quartz that I bought at the Toronto Gem and Mineral show and made myself a pendant!

I have more of the Tourmaline Quartz and will be making more for the shop :)

and the three for you.....

Labradorite

Peridot

Silver Studded Heart

all just listed in my shop : )

The World Is a Wonderful Place

Since I've opened my shop on Etsy, I've met so many wonderful people from all over the world, both customers and fellow Etsy shop owners. It is a fabulous thing this global web trotting we are all able to be apart of in this generation of computer technology. We can communicate with people from all walks of life, sharing in conversation, travelling to another part of the world in the comfort of our own homes. I created this treasury as a respectful nod to all the artists from the north to the south and the east to the west that are honing their craft and sharing it with the rest of the world.
